Simply Local began development with your privacy in mind. Our ethos dictate that we take as less personal information from you as possible and publicly share even less. Your security and privacy drive every decision we take while adding new features. In addition we give as much control to you over your information including managing your public exposure.
Simply Local is a hyperlocal community platform that includes sharing posts, creating Chat Groups and direct messaging. All these occur within set geographical areas chosen by the user.
Using Simply Local
Without creating an account
You don’t have to create an account to use some of our features, such as viewing Posts and discovering Chat Groups in your area. For all other interactive activities you will have to create an account.
Who can view my posts
Simply Local is a public hyperlocal sharing platform where your posts will be publicly visible to other users in that area. Other users may or may not be logged in to read your posts. But nobody can interact with the post or with you without signing in to Simply Local.
Creating An Account and Information We Collect
If you do choose to create an account, we require your email address. In addition we save your name and profile image if we receive them. You will create a callsign (username) to use Simply Local. Your callsign will be shown publicly. Your name and email address is never displayed publicly or shared with anyone. Your profile picture is displayed publicly but only in a small size. Your profile picture can never be viewed in an expanded or zoomed format by others and nobody else can download it in any form from our service. In addition, you have the option to hide your profile picture from public view and replace it with a generic icon.
In addition to the above you can choose to add your occupation and a description to your profile. This is visible publicly.
Membership of a Chat Group is publicly visible to other members of that Chat Group. Whether you are a creator or moderator of a Chat Group is not publicly visible to members except to other moderators.
We do not save your exact location information on our server. Your location data is saved on your device only. We use your location when you open the app the first time to log you into your neighborhood network. We only save your neighborhood network in your account information. We save your last five neighborhood networks in your account. At no point can we identify your exact location.
Our apps request location data only the first time it opens or when you refresh your location.
Other Information We Collect
To provide you with a better experience using our Service we may create a recommended list of Chat Groups which becomes a part of your account information.
Usage and Log Information.
We collect service-related, diagnostic, and performance information. This includes information about your activity (such as how you use our Services, how you interact with others using our Services), log files, and diagnostic, crash, website, and performance logs and reports. Log information is kept for a maximum of six months.
Device and Connection Information.
We collect device-specific information when you install, access, or use our Services. This includes information such as hardware model, operating system information, IP address, mobile network information and device identifiers. We collect device location information if you use our location features, such as when you log into your neighborhood network, and for diagnostics and troubleshooting purposes such as if you are having trouble with our app’s location features.
We collect information about your online status changes on our Services, such as whether you are online (your “online status”), and when you last used our Services (your “last seen status”)
We work with third-party providers to help us operate, provide, improve, understand, customize, support, and market our Services. For example, we work with companies to distribute our apps, provide infrastructure, delivery, and other systems, supply map and places information, help us understand how people use our Services, and market our Services. These providers may provide us information about you in certain circumstances; for example, app stores may provide us reports to help us diagnose and fix service issues.
We allow you to use our Services in connection with third-party services. If you use our Services with such third-party services, we may receive information about you from them; for example, if you use the Simply Local share button on a news service to share a news article on Simply Local, Chat Groups, or if you choose to access our Services through a mobile carrier’s or device provider’s promotion of our Services. Please note that when you use third-party services, their own terms and privacy policies will govern your use of those services.
Managing Your Information.
At any time you can change your callsign which will reflect in all your posts new and old. In addition you can hide your profile picture from public display. You can change your occupation and description content as well as make it blank at anytime as well. The Chat Groups you are subscribed to are not publicly available from your profile and you can exit membership of any Chat Group at any time. You can delete any post of your at any time. You can edit a Post upto only 15 minutes after posting it. After which you will have to delete and post it again if you need to make an edit. When you delete a post the comments and ratings with it will also get deleted.
We do not use or store cookies on your devices.
As far as possible we encrypt your personal information in our server and this prevents others from misusing it for any purpose. In addition we try and split the data so that it is not all available in one location.
You must be 13 years or older depending on your countries laws. Children must have permission of their guardians to use our Services. You are not permitted to use our Services if you do not meet the age requirements.
We do not share your personal information or identity with other agencies unless they can prove through legal recourse that your account maybe involved in illegal activities as per local laws.
